Ergothioneine is a crystalline sulphur-containing compound. It was first discovered in ergot fungus in 1909. Ergothioneine exists in a variety of animals, plants and microorganisms, but only some microorganisms can synthesize autonomously. The site states its EGT is made from histidine using high efficient enzyme-catalyzed synthesis.
